It’s nearing the end of 2017 and the fast-casual bowl trend is still hot on everyone’s minds. Yet, even the widespread acceptance of said trend, including recent players in the Greek and Middle Eastern categories, seems to have glossed over one beloved cuisine: Indian.
That’s where India Café comes in: The White Plains eatery, a recent expansion of the takeout spot of the same name just a few doors down, is serving up classic Indian dishes in delicious lunch bowl form — a move that adds a trendy flair to the otherwise traditional menu.
Like most fast-casual bowls you start with rice, either basmati or Kerala brown, but it’s in picking from the list of proteins that your mouth should start to water: including chicken Tandoori, chicken seekh, Kerala beef, Malai kofta, and grilled salmon.

A healthy topping of veggies and a flavorful assortment of sauces on the side, like tikka, sambar, coconut chutney, or the yogurt-based yellow moru, enhances the presentation. Plus, packing all the diverse flavors of an authentic Indian meal into a well-portioned lunch bowl makes them a smart option if you fear getting “too full” at lunch. Although getting too full doesn’t sound like a bad thing when it comes to indulging in a warm, steaming bowl of chicken Tandoori with all the fixin’s.
