Every Coffee Has Its Season

“Just as fruits and vegetables are seasonal, coffee is, as well,” explains Jason Richter, co-founder (with Johnny Steverson) of Path Coffee Roasters in Port Chester. Founded in 2014, the company is committed to sourcing premium, single-origin beans that embody the distinct flavors of a particular region. “Different countries have different seasons,” says Richter. “We only buy at the beginning of the season, so we know it’s the freshest.”

The beans are hand-roasted in small batches, and every lot is carefully scrutinized for consistency, sweetness, and clarity of flavor. “We’re always actively looking for new coffees,” says Richter. Since the inventory is constantly changing, customers shouldn’t expect the same cup of joe twice. But Richter is confident that Path’s clientele don’t want the same mug every morning. Instead, they are connoisseurs who are interested in trying new things, and above all “really love coffee.”

Path Coffee can be found at select specialty food stores throughout Westchester, including Market North in Armonk and Bedford Gourmet in Bedford. It’s also available at Whole Foods in White Plains and Port Chester, and online at
www.pathcoffees.com. Prices range from $12 to $16 for a 12-ounce bag. But the best way to taste everything Path has to offer is with a three- or six-month subscription ($110-$220). Every other week, beans are roasted on Monday and shipped on Wednesday, ensuring that what arrives at your doorstep is, as Richter calls it, “a super-fresh bag of coffee.”
