*Stacked Town — We couldn’t pick just one burger!
Piper’s Kilt
433 White Plains Rd 914.779.5772
There’s a full menu here of appetizers, salads, entrées, and sandwiches, but who would think to look anywhere on the menu except the list of astounding half-pound burgers, made wonderfully juicy and flavorful cooked under a dome on a flattop griddle. There are a dozen to choose from, but the Eastchester Burger is the star, topped with bacon, bright-yellow American cheese, french fries, a couple of outsized onion rings, the requisite iceberg lettuce/tomato duo, plus a side of red bean chili.
Mason Sandwich Co.
33 Mill Rd; 914.776.2766
After trying the Mason Burger, you’ll be reminded of a Big Mac — if McDonald’s redid their namesake item using unadulterated ingredients, that is. Chef Lou Brindley’s counter-service sandwich shop truly crafts its offerings, using fresh and often homemade ingredients. The Mason, which consists of a pair of slender 4-oz beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and tomato on a sesame-seed bun, is dressed with a sauce combining house-made mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, ketchup, and Japan’s darling mayo brand Kewpie. The crispy fries, made using Kennebec Maine potatoes, are perfect vehicles to sop up the special sauce dripping from the burger’s sides.
