From openings to closings and more, here’s everything you need to know about Westchester County’s restaurant scene in July.
Kanopi Restaurant’s perch high atop the Ritz-Carlton in White Plains may be temporarily closed, but you can still enjoy Chef Anthony Goncalves top-rated dishes via Kanopi at Home (1 Renaissance Sq, White Plains; 914.761.4242).
The menu includes in-house-butchered organic meats, handmade pastas (e.g., semolina thick spaghetti, whole-wheat garganelli) and sauces (e.g., Marcona-almond pesto, mushroom Bolognese), focaccia garlic bread, veggie kebabs, a superlative Portuguese rice pudding, and even artisan cocktails. Orders are filled Thursdays and Fridays, require an $85 minimum, and curbside pickup or delivery (to much of Westchester and Fairfield) is available.
Kudos to those souls so bold as to debut a restaurant during a pandemic:
The city of Peekskill has two: Whiskey River (38 N Division St; 914.293.7550), a craft-cocktail-and-whiskey specialist that opened in the space formerly occupied by McDonald & Peacock Cider House, and Apropos Restaurant & Bar (Abbey Inn & Spa, 900 Fort Hill Rd; 914.739.3546), a farm-to-table restaurant located within a 42-room hotel and spa.
Also launching during COVID-19 was Jack’s Bar & Restaurant (219 Main St, Eastchester; 914.652.7650), in the location that previously held Casa Brusco. The menu is British-pub-inspired, with a pork-and-leek sausage roll, Scotch egg, Irish lamb stew, chicken tikka masala, wood-fired Irish pizza (white Irish cheddar, hash browns, Irish sausage, Irish blood pudding, and Irish bacon on a Heinz baked beans base), and sticky toffee pudding.
Finally, inside a garden center is a new coffee shop and market selling local foodstuffs, The Farmer’s Grind (Copia Home & Garden, 475 Smith Ridge Rd, South Salem; 914.533.7139).
Founded in 1996, the top-rated Pie Lady & Son (125 Main St, Nyack) closed permanently in April.
Wegmans Food Market (106-110 Corporate Drive Park, Harrison) has moved its opening date to sometime in the fall. The original opening was scheduled for June 7.
Also rescheduled from June is this magazine’s annual Wine & Food Festival. The new dates are September 22 to 27.
