The 80-year-old Yonkers bakery, Delite Bake Shop, will be celebrating its grand reopening on October 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The bakery was closed for months following an electrical fire that erupted in the basement back in July. Known for its traditional desserts, Delite Bake Shop is thrilled to welcome back its customers after this challenging period.
Due to the damage, the bakery staff had to arrange structural rebuilding for where the fire took place. Necessary store renovations included new floors, tables, chairs, and appliances that were lost, including the ovens and donut fryer. The bakery’s general manager Eric Jeraci notes that some of the biggest obstacles were the numerous inspections and permits needed to rebuild the bakery and freshen up the design.
“We are most excited to return back to our customers to do what we’ve always done for decades. The bakers, my staff, and I really missed being back in the bakery and serving all of our Delites,” says Jeraci.
Reopening Delite Bake Shop
Whether you’re a longtime customer eager to get your hands back on the delicious desserts or new to the bakery, there’s no time like the reopening to explore all the bakery has to offer. The sidewalk party will feature a DJ playing live music, free giveaways, a visit from Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
Delite serves traditional European-American pastries, which it makes by using traditional recipes and procedures. “I think what makes us so successful is that we stay true to tradition and the old recipes that have been around for generations,” notes Jeraci.
The Yonkers bakery serves high-quality cannoli, cheesecakes, old-fashioned pies, custom cakes, and more. The bakery’s most popular menu items are the traditional cakes, of which they offer 22 varieties. Be on the lookout for seasonal items this year, including struffoli, yule logs, gingerbread houses, paska, and stollen.
“We are beyond excited to be back to our customers. We truly missed seeing their faces every day and serving our baked goods on a daily basis,” says Jeraci.
