Sure, baking homemade cookies can be a fun way to spend an afternoon, but if you’re short on time or simply want to support a local business, Westchester County is chock-full of bakeries serving up delicious cookies from scratch. From fudge brownie cookies to everything-but-the-kitchen-sink confections, we’re sharing our favorite cookies — rather than keeping them all to ourselves.

Chocolate Chip Cookie

Chocolate Chunkers, Bronxville

Baked in small batches by high schooler Michael Knox, Chocolate Chunkers is a passion project turned into a booming local business — based in his parents’ kitchen in Bronxville. Chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside, the Chocolate Chunker cookie is a masterpiece made from Knox’s ideal ratio of ooey-gooey chocolate chunks (instead of chips) to fresh dough. The cookies often sell out (they’re that good), so be sure to check the website for a re-stock or reach out for a special order.

Beascakes Bakery, 575 Main St, Armonk; 914.273.3612

Though Beascakes has become a destination for one-of-a-kind cakes, its cookies are not to be forgotten. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect chocolate chip cookie in Westchester County, the Beascakes rendition should be on your must-try list. The crazy good cookie is chock-full of chocolatey goodness and warm buttery dough. Enough to satisfy any sweet craving, the only thing you’ll want after one of these cookies is a glass of ice cold milk.

Rainbow Cookie

Open only on weekends, this unassuming American-style bakery has been run by the same family since 1956. Known for its pies — and infamous Thanksgiving day lines — Galloway’s cookies are not to be overlooked. Keep an eye out for the rainbow cookies, which contain three colorful, almond-flavored layers nestled between thin coats of melted chocolate.

Boasting a large selection of desserts, including cookies, cakes, ice cream, and more, Homestyle Bakery takes a sugar rush to another level. Among its most popular cookies is the rainbow cookie, featuring three layers of marzipan stuffed between raspberry jam and coated in chocolate. And, if you can’t decide between that and a classic chocolate chip, you’re in luck: You can find a tri-color cookie baked into an almond paste chocolate chip cookie for the best of both worlds.

Fudge Brownie Cookie

Tucked away in the heart of Hastings-on-Hudson, By the Way Bakery is an old-fashioned bakery where everything is made by hand, from scratch, in small batches. Not only are the treats totally delectable, but everything (and we mean everything) is gluten-free, dairy-free, and certified kosher. You won’t be disappointed by the fudge brownie cookies, which feature a fudge brownie’s signature chewy texture and chocolatey taste, except in crispy cookie form.

Though it’s hard to pick just one thing, the classic Italian pignoli cookie can’t be missed. With a soft, chewy, and almond-flavored inside and crispy, crunchy, nutty outside, the cookie at Boiano’s Bakery leaves nothing to be desired — except maybe a cappuccino.

Over 111 years ago, Neri’s Bakery Products, Inc. began in Paul Neri’s Port Chester garage. After three expansions, the current space is now 260,000 square feet, so you can pretty much consider it a factory. The 24/7 business churns out 10 million bagels a week in addition to traditional Italian breads and pastries, including the classic pignoli cookie. With its sweet and nutty flavor, it’s impossible to go wrong when ordering one of these authentic confections.

Gingersnap Cookie

A Best of Westchester Award winner since 2013, Baked by Susan’s Susan O’Keefe knows a thing or two about cookies, cakes, and other delicious confections. Everything on the menu —  including the cookie stacks and platters — is made from scratch daily and features all-natural, local ingredients and fruit in season. Though there’s a variety of cookies to choose from, take it from us: The gingersnap, which is loaded with brown sugar and cinnamon, won’t disappoint.

Get your ginger cookie fix at Flour Power, a BFF-run bakery out of Pelham Manor. If you pop in around Thanksgiving, you can expect to find spiced ginger molasses cookies on display. And around Christmas, the gingerbread men are just as popular. They’re unavailable during the regular season (their novelty makes them that much more special!), so in the off-season, we recommend the Dream Bar, a confection with a shortbread base, topped with sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and toasted coconut. Black and White Cookie

Topps Bakery, 106 Pondfield Rd, Bronxville; 914.337.4258

If you’ve ever been to Topps, you know they don’t mess around when it comes to black and white cookies. The batter is cake-like, so these classic New York cookies actually have a lot more in common with cakes than they do with cookies. This is so much so that Topps’ previous owner (about 80 years ago) started baking the cookies in a cupcake tin, giving them a thicker, more cupcake-like appearance. While you can still grab a classic black and white at Topps (and you should, because they’re excellent), those who appreciate the moist lemony base might love the Marigold, which has a little bit more of it.

White Plains Bake Shoppe, 466 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains; 914.997.9640

Nothing says New York like a black and white cookie. The soft, lemony, cake-like base meets a sugary, chocolatey top in a simple, nostalgic way only nailed by a genuine, old-fashion-style bakery like White Plains Bake Shoppe. Fans across the county flock to the Mamaroneck Ave stronghold for the black and white cookies, which (like the rest of the bakery) are certified Kosher and absolutely delicious.
