Like most any town in Westchester, Katonah is fueled by caffeine and Little Joe’s is one of my favorite coffee shops on this vibrant yet understated main street. Expect fair-trade organic coffees from local brand Dallas Brothers Roasters in Long Island City, teas from Harney & Sons on Millerton, and freshly baked pastries from Balthazar. The latte is their bestseller and my favorite is the chai latte. They also whip up the most delicious milkshakes and fruit smoothies for those hot, sunny days. Not to mention soft ice cream and shaved ice all year long.
But the owners Gretchen and Peter Menzies went one step further by also creating a bookstore within the coffee shop. A destination within a destination.
Wander the bookstore and sip a cappuccino or nibble on a pastry, gluten-free options also available. They have books for all ages, fiction and non-fiction and very knowledgeable staff who can recommend excellent titles as well as gift suggestions. The bookstore is mainly on the second floor with quaint little reading corners, which are ideal to sit down and browse through a book or let your children explore some new titles.
The owners are also doing great things for their local community and help with fundraising events such as participating in the Paint the Town Purple event for the American Cancer Society on May 12th in the afternoon. Make sure you follow them on Instagram for in-store events like their local day fair for small children and author visits. Open weekdays at 5:50 a.m., they ensure the local commuters start the day right with a cup of joe.
