Any self-respecting chocolate-lover has tasted both milk chocolate and dark chocolate, but…dark milk chocolate? You can at Chocolate Lab, the new chocolate boutique and café located inside The J House Greenwich (1114 E Putnam Ave, Greenwich, CT 203-698-6980; jhousegreenwich.com). François Kwaku-Dongo, executive chef of the hotel’s restaurant, eleven14 Kitchen, is also the director of culinary services at The Omanhene Cocoa Bean Company, a fair-trade manufacturer of Ghana-sourced chocolate that is credited with inventing the dark milk chocolate category.
Didier Berlioz, eleven14’s pastry chef (formerly of La Panetière in Rye), along with Kwaku-Dongo, crafts all the sweets at Chocolate Lab, including handmade truffles, giant chocolate-chip cookies, flourless chocolate cake, and filled chocolate candy, as well as pastries and confections. The café is open daily from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm.
