Since popular New York City-based burger chain 5 Napkin opened last summer, it has gotten plenty of love from us. And with good reason—the restaurant produces a mean cheeseburger, and a great brunch.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, a beer dinner could be a fun reason to get over there. They’ve hosted a few since opening up, including most recently with Captain Lawrence Brewing Company. For $50, diners get three entrees, a choice of burger, and a dessert made specially for the event. Each course is paired with a full pint (!) of a Captain Lawrence brew. A serious appetite is required to finish off the whole thing.
Here are the pairings:
• Pimento cheese potato skins, panko onion rings, and Chef Richie’s beer mac and cheese, with Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold.
• Choice of three burgers, with Captain Lawrence Meltwater IPL
• Coffee IPA ice cream donut sandwich, with Captain Lawrence Hopsomniac IPA.
Highlights were the beer mac and cheese, which had little bits of bacon and was made specially for the event, and the Coffee IPA ice cream donut sandwich, which made perfect use of the Hopsomniac IPA it was paired by infusing it in the ice cream.
As far as beer goes, get out and pick up the Meltwater India Pale Lager while you still can. It’s crisp and refreshing, while still carrying a pretty legit hop aroma.
No future beer dinners are lined up yet, but 5 Napkin is apparently working to line one up with Coney Island Brewing Company, so look out for that.
