What are you in the mood to drink? Wait, don’t answer that. Instead, let’s sit back and allow Westchester’s O.G. craft brewery to speak for us. Elmsford-based Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. is hoping that a hoppy, hazy IPA is what you’ll feel like sipping for the better part of 2022.
Earlier this year, the brewery launched the “Mood Series,” focusing on tropically tasting New England-style IPAs (NEIPAs) with the idea that each release will convey the vibes of the calendar.
“Awakening” is in full swing right now (for March) and it is all about highlighting springtime vibes with a citrus-forward blend of Citra, Wakatu, Bravo, and Amarillo hops.

February’s Mood was “Desire” — also dry hopped — that showcased Azacca, Motueka, and Simcoe, and an uptick in juiciness for the palate.
Perfect for a new year, 2022 was kicked off with “Resolute” — dry hopped with Galaxy, Citra, and Mosaic lupulin powder — that gave it a hint of tropical fruit and plenty of earthiness.
Captain Lawrence founder Scott Vaccaro says the mood mission is to offer an exciting, new taste of the NEIPA style as not only the months change, but as the seasons do, too.
“The Mood Series is designed to take our affinity for hazy IPAs to the next level,” Vaccaro says, “Offering customers a premium flagship that changes each and every month just like our own moods.” He adds, “We aim to create expressive hazy IPAs with flavor profiles that evoke different moods as we make our way through the year.”
Of course, it’d be delicious fun to try them all to compare and contrast tasting notes, but if you’re looking to pick and choose, we scored the lineup through September.
