Build Your Own Poke Bowl at Chen’s Poke in White Plains

Fast casual meets Hawaiian poke head on at this new eatery on Main Street.

Fast food and healthy dining don’t typically go hand in hand, but if there’s one trend with any hopes of fixing that it’s fast-casual dining. Fast-casual eateries aren’t always health-minded, but with the ability to customize each dish with fresh and seasonal ingredients, a handful of local favorites, like Dig Inn and Little Beets, have quickly landed themselves among health-conscious foodies’ top spots to grab lunch.

And now, a new player in town is bringing all that and more with build-your-own poke bowls.

Chen’s Poke came on the county scene in September 2019, opening the doors to the franchise’s second eatery on Main Street in White Plains. The first Chen’s Poke opened on Long Island last April, and a third is planned to open on Bedford Street in Stamford, CT.  The clean, modern interior and large windows provide the perfect setting for the photoshoot you’ll definitely have with their vibrant, Insta-ready menu options.

Bowls come in two sizes: two or three scoops. The eatery’s build-your-own process will be familiar; customers choose a base of white or brown rice, salad, or zucchini noodles. The “scoops” refers to the number of scoops of your main protein, which includes ahi or spicy tuna, yellowtail, salmon, eel, shrimp, and chicken, as well as tofu as a vegetarian option. Extra mix-ins are also available with additions like sweet onions, edamame, red pepper, mango, and a variety of yummy sauces. Spicy mayo and yuzu sauce make the world go ‘round!

If making game-time decisions is not your thing, go for one of six signature bowls. The eye-catching Rainbow Bowl comes overflowing with ahi tuna, salmon, yellowtail, green onions, red peppers, and cucumber in a delectable wasabi dressing. Or go for the Dragon Bowl — topped with eel, shrimp, octopus, and pineapple — if you’re feeling adventurous.

Aside from poke, Chen’s offers sides such as miso soup, seaweed salad, and crab salad. They’re open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
