When Broxnville’s beloved Topps Bakery decided to open a second location in Mount Kisco, owners Joern and Michelle Tittel knew that they wanted to shake up the bakery concept. With an emphasis not only on baked goods, but on soups, sandwiches, salads and prepared food to go — and seating for 19 — Topps Bakery at Mount Kisco looks to be more than just a bakery for residents of Northern Westchester.
“The new store gives us the opportunity to bring in savory items and healthy goods not normally found in a bakery,” says Joern. “What attracted me to the area was that there is nothing similar in a five-mile radius that provides great, old-fashioned Italian baked goods.” Those baked goods will be still baked in Bronxville. In addition to Italian specialties, the bakery also has a variety of bread, cereal-topped donuts, and marigolds, which Joern says “is a Topps original” that’s like “a black-and-white cookie on steroids.”

If you’re forsaking carbs or don’t have a sweet tooth, you’ll still find plenty to love here. The Tittels brought in two food pros: Jenni Mendez as director of catering (you may recognize her from now-closed Siegel Bros.) and GM Scott Pires, formerly of The Katonah Grill. “We’re combining our love of food with our love for this community,” Mendez says, noting that customers can come in for a coffee or lunch, pick up cupcakes for a child’s soccer game, or pastries for a family event.
Mendez will also work with customers on meal planning. “We want to offer a service that takes the stress out of people’s lives and offer healthful options.” The Mount Kisco location menu includes items such as a Dirty Root salad with root vegetables, quinoa and kale, and a spa tuna salad. In addition to the standard items, there’ll be daily specials as well.
“To succeed in brick-and-mortar retail in 2019, you have to provide a value-added service,” says Joern. Topps aims to be the place that does just that.
