Looking for beer pairings for your Super Bowl spread? We have you covered. Adobe Stock/  master1305.

Whether your team is playing in the big game or not, you can’t argue that a major part of the Super Bowl is what you’re eating and drinking.

Regardless of whether you’re part of team Fly Eagles Fly or a member of Chiefs Kingdom, everyone, including casual fans and non-fans, will at least tune in for a little taste of Super Bowl LVII. But what cannot be argued is that a major part of America’s unofficial holiday is centered around what you’re eating and drinking.

We asked local brewers Scott Vaccaro of Westchester’s O.G. craft brewery Captain Lawrence and Michael Chiltern of Wolf & Warrior, along with Beekman Ale House owners Luke and Patrick Sheehan, for their expertise on which beers they suggest as pairings for all those salty, meaty, carby, spicy Super Bowl staples.

Wings

Pair with Captain Lawrence Citra Dreams Hazy IPA

“Spicy hot wings are just begging for a juicy, citrusy IPA! That’s why I love our Citra Dreams Hazy IPA when enjoying wings. The big burst of orange and grapefruit flavors perfectly complement the heat of a kickin’ hot sauce and get you ready for that next drumstick or flat.” – Scott Vaccaro, Captain Lawrence

Pizza

Pair with Wolf & Warrior Patagonia and/or Industrial Arts Metric

“Few pairings are more satisfying than a crisp golden ale and pizza. Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company does an exceptional job with their Patagonia Argentinian Golden Ale. It is incredibly crushable, and the clean, malty body is the perfect accompaniment to a New York slice. If Wolf & Warrior eludes you, our friends at Industrial Arts make a fantastic pilsner, Metric, that is also ideal with pizza.” – Scott Vaccaro, Captain Lawrence

Bonus* Pizza & Beer Pairing

(*Because we couldn’t leave out the two guys whose business is centered around beer and pizza.

“Beer and pizza are football Sunday essentials, and the password to our Wi-Fi. When I sit down to watch a game, I do it with a Beekman Ave Pizza (red sauce, cheese, bacon, cherry peppers) and a Wrench from Industrial Arts. Wrench is perfect for neutralizing the spicy cherry peppers and perfectly pairs with the crispy parmesan and bacon that’s on our namesake pie.” – Luke Sheehan, Beekman Ale House

Pigs in a Blanket

Pair with Schilling Brewing Co.’s Aosta Pilster

“Pair these with an Aosta Pilsner from Schilling out of Littleton, New Hampshire. It’s brewed with beautiful floral, citrus, and cracker malt notes. The crispness of this beer pairs perfectly with a freshly baked mini hot dog dipped in mustard or ketchup. Cheers!” – Patrick Sheehan, Beekman Ale House

Italian Sub

Pair with Wolf & Warrior’s Shire Wolf New Zealand Pale Ale

“Most people might not think of a hazy, aromatic, tropical pale ale to pair with a classic Italian sub, but I think our newest Wolf & Warrior beer, “Shire Wolf” New Zealand Pale Ale, does fit the bill perfectly. With an Italian sub or hero (I prefer hero being from NY), you got the meats bro! Cured meats, roasted meats, oily meats, cheeses, peppers of all kinds (depending upon the style), and a loaf of hearty Italian bread. You need a beer that can hold its own in the ring with this Italian Stallion of a sangy, and not just some random glass of yellow liquid to wash it all down. Enter the “Shire Wolf!” Hazy, juicy and aromatic, with vibes of passionfruit, white wine grapes, semi-sweet hints of lime, and an ultra-smooth drinkable body. It brings this here sandwich experience to the next level. We kept this one lower in alcohol at 5.1% ABV, yet dry hopped it extra-large with THE New Zealand hop all-stars: Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin. These hops will slice into those decadent meats on the sub, while amplifying the spices, and leaving you fresh and refreshed for another big bite…and then another sip. It’s a one-two punch championship combo!” – Michael Chiltern, Wolf & Warrior

Nachos

Pair with Maine Beer Company’s Lunch

“One of Maine Beer Company’s staples, Lunch! It’s a New England take on a West Coast-style IPA with bold citrus, particularly grapefruit, also hints of pine. This beer pairs beautifully with the creaminess of the guac, sour cream, and salsa that generously loads most plates of nachos.” – Patrick Sheehan, Beekman Ale House

Chili

Pair with Zero Gravity’s Extra Stout

“Pair chili with one of my favorites from Zero Gravity. Their extra stout complements any chili with its hints of coffee and a light, dry finish. I’d suggest adding a little in the chili to really pair the two!” – Luke Sheehan, Beekman Ale House

Guacamole

Pair with Schilling Beer Co.’s Alexandr Czech Pilsner

“Pairing with guacamole I simply have to go with a nice crisp pint of “Alexandr” Czech Pilsner from Schilling. This beer has a malt body that perfectly balances with the soft and very refreshing bite of the Czech noble hops dancing throughout. It cuts right through the creamy avocado, while not undercutting the flavor and depth of a well-made guacamole. The creamy, salty and (sometimes) spicy layers of guacamole pair wonderfully with the refreshing bite and thirst-quenching powers of this excellent Czech premium pilz.” – Michael Chiltern, Wolf & Warrior
