Thank Archimedes for homophones. Tomorrow is 3/14, better known as National Pi Day, and while math geniuses may be excited to prove how many decimal places they can recite, for the rest of us it’s a lot more fun to celebrate with pie.
Baked by Susan in Croton-on-Hudson is capitalizing on the holiday with some special math of its own — rollback sales on some of the bakery’s most popular items! Susan’s super popular mini-pies, normally $8.50 will now only be $6.28, i.e., “2π.” Full-size fans, your decimals have also received a rollback: instead of the usual $24.50, 9-inch pies are down to an even $20. Can’t make up your mind on which flavor to get? Try them all, as new this year the bakery is offering pie by-the-slice for just, you guessed it, $3.14 each.

A few years back in 2015, when National Pi Day fell on a Saturday, the bakery sold over 500 mini-pies, says owner Susan O’Keefe. Since, they have routinely sold-out. “It’s become a little bit of a buzz and people have been asking me if we’re going to be selling pies on Pi Day.” Pie-hard fans are encouraged to call ahead for their favorite flavors.
Considering she’s making everything from the crust to the filling from scratch, it’s no wonder people are buzzing. Chocolate cream pie, made the old-fashioned way, is the biggest seller. There’s also cherry (Susan’s favorite), apple crumb, blueberry, coconut custard, Key lime, triple berry (strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry), and pumpkin, just to name a few.
“People go crazy for the little pies because you don’t always have an occasion to have a big pie,” says O’Keefe. “People loved it last year because they could make a sampler for a good price.”
