“Lemmegetabaconeggandcheese!” is likely in your vocabulary if you grew up in the tri-state area, and there’s no arguing that the BEC (or the BECSPK, which real locals know includes salt, pepper, and ketchup) is the quintessential to-go breakfast in our region. The craving for a holy bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich is real most days, but even more so when you’ve had a lot to drink the night before and desperately need a greasy, porky, carby, cheesy pick-up the next morning.
These are a handful of BECs that’ll help you shake off that fogginess: some fancy, some standard, and a few wild ones that are somehow upgrades to an already perfect breakfast sandwich.
Dougie’s Standby
604 N Main St, Port Chester; 914.939.0022
One of those can be had at Dougie’s Standby, just off Route 1, and in the same parking lot as Carvel. “The Bomb” epitomizes a hangover cure as it’s stacked with two over-medium eggs (you do need your protein), bacon, gooey American cheese, plenty of home fries, and, to wake you up, plenty of the homemade spicy chili, all on a poppy-seeded hard roll.
Bobo’s Cafe
Multiple locations
With locations in Somers, Chappaqua, Ridgefield, and Baldwin Place, you should have no trouble getting your fix of “The Number One” on any of the days that end in the letter “y.” It’s mostly classic, but there are additions of a crispy hash brown, avocado, and a schmear of creamy sriracha sauce on a buttery, flaky croissant. If you’d rather grab something healthier, or something healthy on the side to make yourself feel better, Bobo’s has you covered in that department, too.
The Cookery
39 Chestnut St, Dobbs Ferry; 914.305.2336
Leave it to David DiBari to reinvent the breakfast sandwich. Custardy, fluffy yolks that are breaded and fried, Milanese style, salty house-cured bacon, and creamy, tangy caciocavallo cheese all come together on a soft sesame seed bun for one of Westchester’s most creative BECs. This is a weekend-only thing, folks, on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the restaurant’s weekend brunch. It’s not only a great way to experience The Cookery, but it’s a steal of a deal at $39.95 for three courses and a drink.

The Outpost
1 Court Rd, Bedford; 914.205.3900
This handheld from The Outpost is all about being farm-fresh and using humanely raised livestock. The two yolky eggs on your sandwich and the thick-cut bacon both come from this store’s very own farm in Cambridge, NY, called John Boy’s Farm.
Rocky’s Millwood Deli
235 Saw Mill River Rd, Millwood; 914.941.2165
Open 24 hours, Rocky’s is there when you need it the most. No stranger to the extreme, this deli has a sandwich dubbed the Tommy D: a bacon, egg, and cheese topped off with a crispy, juicy chicken cutlet. If that’s not good enough, grab the Hash Tag, put simply, a Tommy D with an added hash brown. You might have to unhinge your jaw, but this bad boy will bring you back to homeostasis.

Bonus BEC in a bowl:
Freddy’s
472 Bedford Rd, Pleasantville; 914.408.0048
What better way to get over a hangover than by pulling up at a bar for a little hair of the dog? One of Freddy’s many beverages will set you right, but what you should have, if not the eatery’s own breakfast sandwich (homemade bacon jam, eggs, and cheddar bechamel on fresh baked focaccia), is the BEC in the form of risotto. This “rice bowl” combines smoky, thick chunks of Nueske’s bacon, cheddar bechamel, a generous dusting of aged parmesan, scallions, and a rich egg yolk that nests on top, ready for you to break it open and mix it in.
