Chef Michael Wendt, previously chef de cuisine at X2O Xaviars on the Hudson, is the executive chef at the new Club Car Grille (6 S Broadway, Irvington; 914.591.2033), a white-tablecloth, 70-seat modern American grill in the space that formerly housed River City Grille for 25 years. For starters, try the prosciutto-wrapped grilled figs, polenta bites with smoked paprika aioli; steak tartare, and lobster and blue crab mac ’n’ cheese. Among the mains: a chilled Maine lobster roll, agnolotti with wild mushrooms and smoked bacon, Faroe Island salmon, grilled ahi tuna, and a 12-ounce Prime New York strip. A separate bar menu is offered in the smaller 20-seat lounge area. Matt Kay is the owner, who also is the proprietor of Hudson Social in Dobbs Ferry.
Larchmont residents Shani and Chef Peter Sherman, who previously owned BarBacon in Hell’s Kitchen prepandemic, have opened Locals 10538 (2128 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont; 914.881.9115), a 25-seat café (downstairs) and 150-person capacity music/event space (upstairs). On the menu: chicken cutlets and farro salad; barbecue ribs, steak frites, tandoori chicken, and assorted sandwiches and sliders. For dessert, a sundae with house-made toppings of fudge and praline crumble.
Oversized cookie specialist Crumbl has opened its second county location in Yorktown Heights (3333 Crompond Rd; 914.214.1996). The menu rotates weekly; expect flavors such as milk chocolate chip, coconut cream pie, chocolate milkshake, pink doughnut, and cinnamon roll. The national chain’s first 914 location is in Hartsdale.
Falafel Taco, with locations in Pleasantville and Greenwich, has gained kosher certification to further add to the menu’s dietary inclusiveness of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free selections. Owners Jonathan and Rosie Langsam, of Jewish and Mexican heritage respectively, offer what they coined as “MexRaeli cuisine.” On the menu: chicken schnitzel tacos, Mexican latkes, Israeli corn salad, Mexican matzo ball tortilla soup, and Ma Bett’s Old Clothes taco with slow-cooked shredded brisket.
