7 Westchester Butcher Shops Every Carnivore Should Know

Test your grilling chops this weekend with cuts of beef, pork, chicken, and more.

While many grocers have taken on the role of butchers, the luxury of stepping into a butcher shop for the most delectable cuts still lives. If you’re searching for the finest charcuterie, the freshest meat, or the most exotic choices, a qualified butcher is always the answer. We’ve narrowed down Westchester’s best shops to take the guesswork out of finding the best carnivorous options for you.

Campbell Meats

3 Cedar St, Dobbs Ferry; 914.231.5133

The relative new kid on the block, craft butcher Campbell Meats has quickly made a name for itself with a sustainable, whole-animal approach and excellent housemade charcuterie. Coming from a background of highly regarded restaurants and butcher shops, owner Matt Campbell understands that great meat begins at the farm, selecting grass-fed lamb and beef, pastured pork, and free-range poultry from small, family-owned-and-operated Hudson Valley purveyors.

Fiamma Pork Store

107 Halstead Ave, Harrison; 914.630.1452

At his old-school butcher and pork shop, Doug Tucci brings the Bronx to Westchester. The shop specializes in local pork, poultry, and prime beef. Behind the counter, Fiamma also makes its own pancetta, capocollo, guanciale, mozzarella, and the hand-cranked sausages that are displayed in the shop window. It’s also home to some of the best sandwiches (braised brown-sugar pork, for example) in Westchester.

Village Prime Meats

475 Main St, Armonk; 914.273.5222

Angelo Letizia made his first sausage at age 14, and thus, a career was born. A three-time Best of Westchester winner, Village Prime Meats is one of Westchester’s most delectable butchers. (Besides the selection of prime meats, don’t be surprised to find some celebrity residents perusing the case.) The shop prides itself on a fine selection of organic chicken, beef tenderloin, tender veal, and dry-aged rack of lamb, and is best known for its fresh, never-frozen turkeys.

The Butcher’s Fancy

961 McLean Ave, Yonkers; 914.237.8260

With more than 30 years of experience as a butcher, Oliver Charles runs this shop specializing in Irish preparations. You’ll find your favorites like rashers, boiling bacon, Irish hams, sausages, and old-fashioned barrel-corned beef. Upon request, the shop can also span the globe with adventurous choice like kangaroo, buffalo, and alligator.

Cole’s Market

2147 Albany Post Rd, Montrose; 914.737.7737

A third-generation family-owned business operating for over 100 years, Cole’s brings serious experience to the butcher counter. What began in 1890 as a candy store, is now a market and butcher best known for its cookout-ready burgers, plus a large selection of steaks, roasts, fresh chicken, lamb, pork and veal.

Crisfield’s Meat Market

61 Purchase, Rye; 914.967.0152

Rye’s old-school, New York-style butcher serves up all our favorites. The shop specializes in prime and organic beef, which is ground to order. The market also offers poultry, pork, veal, and a selection of wild game, as well as prepared foods, including salads and cold and hot sandwiches at the full-service deli counter.

Longo’s Park Deli

203 S Regent St, Port Chester; 914.939.3217

In business for more than 50 years, this Port Chester deli and butcher shop is known for one thing: sausage. Coiled links of the seasoned Italian pork may draw the crowds, but you’ll also find plenty of other items — from kebabs and pork ribs to marbled steaks — ready to hit the grill.
