7 Ways to Celebrate National S’mores Day

August 10 is National S’mores Day, a time to honor that delicious, gooey, messy, chocolate-y, crunchy campfire treat, and to try some of the creative s’more spinoffs you’ll find around the county.

Today is National S’mores Day, the perfect time to honor the fact that, even as adults, the inevitability of sticky fingers and a chocolate-smeared face never stops us from embarking on the adventure that is skewering, roasting, and squashing a marshmallow between chocolate and graham crackers. After all, the classic dessert is named for the insatiable desire to consume “some more” after tasting the first. While many may believe they are the mallow-roasting masters of their campfire parties, the true dessert experts have taken the treat to new levels. Take a look at some of the unique and gourmet s’mores you’ll find around Westchester.

Chef James Shannon’s menu features an array of sweets, but in honor of National S’mores Day he has created s’mores shots (crumbled graham crackers, chocolate sauce, and caramelized marshmallow served in a shot glass) and s’mores pops (marshmallow caramelized on a stick and then dipped in chocolate and crumbled graham crackers). And these treats are not just for business travelers but anyone looking for a late-night dessert and a nightcap.

Campfire Crêpe
Little Crepe Street, Mount Kisco

This French twist on an American favorite will not disappoint any classic s’mores lover. The warm thin crêpe is a perfect base for the comforting mix of homemade marshmallow, graham crackers, and chocolate sauce, topped with a gentle sprinkle of powdered sugar. Crêpes come in original, buckwheat, gluten-free rice, and lentil or gluten-free lentil.

Giant S’more

Sherry b’s offers more s’more than you’ll find anywhere else—the Giant S’more can feed up to ten people. All ingredients are made in-house; the homemade graham cracker alone is worth it. The dessert can be eaten as is, but warming it in the oven or toaster at 350ºF for 2-3 minutes lets the deliciousness all melt together. They also offer custom Giant S’mores if you want to try mixing it up with some peanut butter, a custom cracker flavor, different syrups, or any wacky combination you conjure up. Don’t forget to look out for their special themed s’mores come the holidays.

Fluffernutter Pizza
CoalsPort Chester, Bronxville

It is not exactly a s’more, and it doesn’t use Marshmallow Fluff, as the name would suggest. But Coals’ fluffernutter pizza is an interesting mix of chocolate, cream, and crunch that we thought was worth a mention. When owner Billy Etzel realized that a fluffernutter pizza was not going to work the way he had hoped, he decided to try using mascarpone cheese to add a creamy element to Coals’ other sweet pizza offering, plain Nutella. Etzel admits that some people are nervous to add cheese to their chocolate, or chocolate to their pizza, but once they do they are pleasantly surprised.

S’mores Ice Cream
Madison Kitchen, Larchmont

Madison Kitchen starts with Nutella ice cream and then mixes in homemade marshmallows and crushed sea salt graham crackers. The hazelnut flavor complements the marshmallow and chocolate well, and the salt makes the dessert extra savory. Find it at the Larchmont Farmer’s Market or on Madison Kitchen’s dessert menu.
