5 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Sour'd in September Beer Festival This Weekend

When it comes to drinking, we like to think of ourselves as experts (specialists, aficionados, compulsively obsessed fanatics, whatever you want to call it). So when we caught wind that Captain Lawrence is bringing in more than 70 outside breweries to showcase their finest and most memorable sour beers for their annual Sour’d in September beer festival this Saturday, we figured we had some words of advice to offer so you can have the best experience possible. Stay true to these tips and we can guarantee nothing but success.

1. Pace yourself.

Captain Lawrence founder Scott Vaccaro is shaping this event as a “thinking man’s beer festival.” With more than 100 different sour, barrel-aged, and wild beers at the ready from some of the nation’s top breweries, Sour’d is for people who want to taste the beers, talk about the beers, and engage in the culture. Basically, if you’re just looking to get trashed, this festival might not be for you.

2. Arrive on time (and safely) to get your money’s worth of food and music.

Although billed as a beer festival, there will be both live music and plenty of food from Captain Lawrence, Walter’s Hot Dog Food Truck, and the Souvlaki Truck to fill your belly as well. For general admission ticket holders, we recommend showing up as close to 2 p.m. as you can to make time for parking, getting in, and taking advantage of every highlight this festival has to offer.

And of course, please plan for a designated driver. There’s even a very affordable $10 DD ticket if they plan not to drink at all, and you can always purchase a six pack at the brewery to award said driver upon safe return home.

3. Take plenty of pictures.

If you go to a festival and didn’t post it to Instagram, did you really go? This is your best chance to look like a beer scene insider to all your internet friends, so don’t be camera shy.

4. Stay hydrated.

You’ll potentially be drinking from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Plus, the weather forecast is looking pretty promising, which means the sun will be out in full effect. With all the walking, talking, and sipping you’ll be doing, water is absolutely essential. Maybe pack some sunscreen while you’re thinking about your health.

5. Bring home some brews.

You’re going to a beer festival because you like beer, presumably. If that’s the case, keep the party going by grabbing some of Captain Lawrence’s popular retail brews to-go, like their Freshchester Pale Ale. You and your beer-loving future self will thank you.
