Shakshuka at Falafel Taco
30 Wheeler Ave, Pleasantville; 914.579.2526The recent increase in Middle Eastern-inspired restaurants has definitely upped our hummus game. It’s also improved breakfast options, thanks in part to shakshuka, a dish of eggs poached in spiced tomato sauce. At Falafel Taco, they’re swapping the traditional feta for Mexican queso fresco, and making the dish super affordable ($6.39 and that includes coffee).
Salmon Tacos at DonJito
122 Mamaroneck Ave, Mamaroneck; 914.902.5486
There’s more than tacos on the menu at this Mamaroneck Med-Mex spot from the owners of PopoJito in Scarscale. Still, we really love these salmon ones, topped with crunchy cabbage, mango, and not-too-hot habañero salsa. Snap a photo to share on social media as part of Intoxikate and Feeding Westchester’s annual Eating for Orange campaign (DonJito is one of 20 participating restaurants) that raises awareness for Hunger Action Month.

Pumpkin Ice Cream With Salted Caramel at The Blue Pig
121 Maple St, Croton-on-Hudson; 914.271.3850
All summer long, Lisa Moir makes seasonal scoops and classic combos with high-quality ingredients at her eco-friendly ice cream shop. Just as the weather turns cold and we start to think that ice cream season is over, she proves us wrong with this pumpkin ice cream swirled with ribbons of salted caramel.
Buttery Salty Potatoes at The Cookery
39 Chestnut St, Dobbs Ferry; 914.305.2336
Honestly, there’s no month when we’re not eating these potatoes at The Cookery.
The concept is so stupid simple that it’s genius — chunks of fried potatoes smothered in a melty mix of butter, Parmesan, sea salt, and herbs.
Soup Dumplings at O Mandarin
361 N Central Ave, Hartsdale; 914.437.9168
The stunning atmosphere — intricate carvings and Chinese antiques — at this Hartsdale strip-mall restaurant is transporting. But, we wouldn’t come if the food wasn’t also up to snuff. That includes the soup dumplings, thin-skinned pouches of tender pork and fragrant, ginger-scented broth, that are the ultimate cold-weather food.
