There were dozens of kitchen entries to go through, but making this choice was a snap: The entire panel was instantly smitten with the coffered ceiling, tasteful light fixtures, and overall design of this Scarsdale kitchen. “The family needed more space, and wanted the kitchen to be more current but with a timeless design,” says Kevin Bracchitta, president of Sleepy Hollow Custom Kitchens. “White kitchens always sell. My dad sold white kitchens 40 years ago and we still do, always looking for different nuances to keep it fresh.” For example, while subway tiles have been around forever, Bracchitta had Calcutta marble from Italy cut into oversize tiles for an entirely different feeling. “We looked at 25 lots of marble for the backsplash to get the right combination of white and veining,” he says. Other distinctive elements include the variety of countertop materials: black granite with a leathered texture, walnut on the island, and zinc on the hutch; hand-distressed, wide-plank, heated floors; a hammered sink; and a hand-painted, distressed, country pine hutch with glass eyebrow doors that echo the curve of the window over the sink.
