According to the DA’s office, Mario Garcia-Sura, 49, of 77 Locust Hill Ave, Yonkers, spent the day of October 20, 2013 drinking beer with an acquaintance while driving to and from “neighborhood bodegas.” The men’s intoxicated escapades came to a tragic end when Garcia-Sura, speeding down Riverdale Ave, collided with another car.

The driver of the second vehicle, 19-year-old Westchester Community College student Sreeraj Chandran—also of Yonkers—was fatally wounded in the collision. He was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Hospital less than an hour later.

Garcia-Sura’s passenger survived, but was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was admitted for severe injuries to his lower body.

The DA’s office said Garcia-Sura will be sentenced on June 10.
