This White Plains Smart Office Is a Workplace for the New Normal

WestPark revolutionizes office life with environmentally friendly workspaces, next-gen technology, and focus on employee health and wellness.

This challenging year has revolutionized the way we work, and people have been fleeing the city for the suburbs, creating a greater demand for homes and workspaces in the suburbs. Now, as more and more talent emerges from the once quiet suburbs, more offices are opening up locally so people can ditch the dreaded commute.

Among the new workplaces being built in Westchester is the WestPark complex, a pair of trophy Class-A headquarters buildings constructed on 25.6 acres of land in White Plains. Onyx Equities LLC — a Woodbridge, NJ-based real estate firm — built these two Gold LEED buildings to capitalize on this post-pandemic shift in workspaces.

“WestPark in White Plains is uniquely positioned to meet their needs, especially as workers are reluctant to return to skyscraper workplaces,” says Onyx EVP of Asset Management DJ Venn.

The office brings the latest urban workforce technology to the burbs, featuring next-generation air filtration systems, high-speed fiber, environmentally friendly design, natural light on each level, and EV charging stations. WestPark is geared to emphasize the overall health of its occupants, with a fitness center, outdoor workspaces, walking trails, and wellness protocols. Onyx’s goal was to create an office space that facilitates an environment fitting the modern commercial workplace.

“The idea from the very start was to transform these already beautiful buildings to meet the technological demands of 21st century businesses. Our goal for the future is to rival some of the most technically-advanced campuses in the world,” Venn says. “Companies like to follow the talent, and a significant percentage of that talent is now in suburbia.”

This top-tier workspace is the first phase in Onyx’s bet on a transformative work environment. In the next years, the firm plans for WestPark to serve as an anchor point for a complete transformation of the I-287 corridor between New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

“Our concept is that one day in the future, electric and autonomous shuttles or other such vehicles would connect our innovation campus with our immediate neighborhood’s sports, food, and health facilities, and then to the White Plains multimodal, transportation center and Metro-North RR train stations,” Venn says. “Both our world-class Smart Campus and the concept of developing an ‘Innovation Corridor’ along the I-287 corridor all play into the vision we have of moving Westchester County into the forefront of smart business, innovation, and healthy living.”
