Peekskill is a historic place. It was a Continental Army command post from 1776 to 1778, an Underground Railroad stop, and the only place in the county where Abraham Lincoln gave a speech. So it’s fitting that the city’s newest restaurant—tapas, wine, and craft cocktail specialist Iron Vine—is located in a circa 1863 building that has been lovingly restored with reclaimed materials from Peekskill.
Through a wrought-iron gate just inside the entrance is the copper-ceilinged 40-seat dining area and bar; the menu is by James Abbatiello, formerly a Walt Disney World chef as well as sous chef at Manhattan’s Rosa Mexicano. The tapas ($8-$15) selections include beef meatballs with pickled cherry peppers; charcuterie; and six varieties of empanadas. Larger plates ($15-$22) change weekly but may include skirt steak with chimichurri-roasted veggies and veal osso buco. Owner/Pastry Chef Gabriel Arango makes a mean dark chocolate bread pudding and caramel apple empanada—so don’t skip dessert.

Smart, creative cocktails, many made with house-infused liquors, are also not to be missed. They include a hot spiked cider and (for brunch only) the Greening Mary, a version of the Bloody Mary made with tomatillos, white grapes, and cucumber.
The most appealing aspect, however, may be the late-night dining menu (10 pm until 2 am), something Westchester is sorely lacking.

Exposed brick, loft ceilings, and an 80-seat patio (to relish Hudson River views) are part of the transformation of the historic Dobbs Ferry train depot to the new Hudson Social café.
The 100-seat casual eatery offers a New York State-only wine list and has a menu of “eating-with-your-hands type of food,” says Chef/GM Giuseppe Bologna, who was chef at the now-defunct Salumè in Manhattan, which won Best Panini (2011) in New York magazine.
The menu will change periodically, but expect gourmet burgers, composed salads, baked gluten-free pastas, kebabs and skewers from an outdoor grill, and panini and grilled cheeses on Bronx-style Filoni bread (the fresh mozz, goat cheese, figs, and wildflower honey is a signature).
In addition to lunch and dinner, Hudson Social opens at 5 am for Lavazza coffee/espresso and Balthazar baked goods, plus the kitchen serves until midnight so guests can chow down while listening to live music Wednesday to Sunday.
