You need a convivial atmosphere and plenty of places to watch the game—whatever the game is that day.” Emma’s offers a bar full of flat-screen TVs and 42 different beers to tide sports fans through the season.
It’s hard to say who invented the sports bar in our county seat, but a good candidate would be Bob Hyland, the White Plains native and former NY Giant, who opened the Sports Page Pub more than 30 years ago. The bar moved from its original Mamaroneck Avenue location to Hamilton Avenue in 2006 but brought along a raft of regulars and more TVs than you can count. Before he became Westchester County Executive, Rob Astorino hosted a weekly sports radio show on WFAS that broadcast from the bar.
Emma’s and Sports Page are just two of dozens of sports bars in White Plains. Mamaroneck Avenue is home to the Black Bear Saloon, The Brazen Fox, and Lazy Boy Saloon, among many others. On Post Road is the Thirsty Turtle and right next door is Kelly’s Pub. For traditional Irish flavor, try Tighe’s Tavern on Martine Avenue.
