There are “good boys” and then there are boys (and girls) so good they deserve the MVP — “Most Valuable Puppy” — award. Dozens of puppies from animal shelters across the country are playing to win the WAYFAIR “Lombarky” Trophy.

This year, you’ll get to watch one local rescue dog from Paws Crossed Animal Rescue in Elmsford duke it out in Animal Planet’s annual three-hour (human) football alternative, the Puppy Bowl. Good boy Tom Barky was rescued from a dump site in North Carolina with his mom and six siblings. Now, he’ll be living out his dreams as a football player (talk about a success story).

Tom Barky was found just skin and bones alongside his six siblings after being abandoned in a dump. His mom Maize heroically raised them, giving her pups everything she could. When they arrived at Paws Crossed, Maize made sure her babies were safe before greeting all the humans with puppy snuggles and kisses.

Tom Barky is now living happily in Westchester County waiting to be adopted by a loving family.  That is, when he’s not being drafted by Team Ruff.

“We cannot wait to celebrate and cheer on our little Tom Barky when he hits the football field on February 12,” says Julie Potter, Business and Development Director for Paws Crossed Animal Rescue.

Those wishing to help make a difference in the lives of Westchester’s four-legged residents can apply to adopt or foster a pet in need of a loving home or volunteer at the rescue.

The Puppy Bowl Pre-Game Show starts at 2 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 12 on Animal Planet and the discovery+ app. This year’s show will include celebrity appearances, as well as returning Puppy Bowl Ruff-eree Dan Schachner and commentators Steve Levy and Taylor Rooks. You can also view all of this year’s competitors online.

Will this Westchester star take home the MVP award? Tune in for all the excitement. (Just try not to make a mess on the carpet.)
