Update 7/22/2020: Wegmans will open to the public on Wednesday, August 5 at 9 a.m. Check back with us earlier in the week for a preview of the new store.
Improvements made to the location since its initial June grand opening date include added sanitation and distancing measures, as well as a live cam feed of the entrance to determine if there will be a wait to get in. (Shoppers are also encouraged to use the Wegmans Scan app to scan as they shop for a completely contactless checkout.)
March 26, 2020:
Amidst grocery-shelf shortages, restaurant closings, and postponements of many major food-focused events like Hudson Valley Restaurant week, Westchester residents are feeling a tangible blow to their dinner tables.
Unfortunately, that news didn’t end when it came to a much-anticipated new grocery store: Wegmans, the beloved grocer with an almost cult-like following, has announced it will postpone the opening of the chain’s new Harrison location.
Originally scheduled for June 7, Wegman’s openings attract massive crowds — the recent Brooklyn opening broke opening-day sales records and was attended by more than 25,000 shoppers.
“Given these unprecedented times, we feel this is the right thing to do,” says Store Manager Matthew Dailor. “We are so excited to be part of the Harrison community and can’t wait to start serving our local customers. We’re keeping in touch with our community organizations to partner with them as this situation continues to develop.”
While the opening might be delayed, the chain is still hiring and training new staff members. Anyone recently finding themselves out of work and interested can apply online.
