Jennifer Healy and Brian Barney started out as colleagues, chatting by the water cooler, meeting for lunch or an occasional drink or two after work. Jennifer admits there was chemistry between them from the get-go, but it took two years for their friendship to ignite into something much more.
Jennifer remembers the afternoon in November of 2008 when she and Brian made things official.“It was one of those picture-perfect, cloudless afternoons in New York City. Brian and I walked for blocks upon blocks, eventually winding up on the Brooklyn Bridge. I turned around for a second, and when I looked back, Brian was positioned down on one knee with a gorgeous antique engagement ring in his hand.”
The two sealed the deal with a romantic lunch at the River Café, uncorked a bottle of Champagne, shared the news with family near and far (Jennifer’s family hails from Australia; Brian’s from Long Island, Colorado, and Chicago). They both knew that they wanted their wedding to be elegant but not too formal, chic but not too contemporary, and, like their personalities, with just a bit of whimsy thrown in for good measure. When they walked into the Larchmont Yacht Club, they knew it was perfect for them.
“I am very outdoorsy,” Jennifer says. “I had always dreamed of having a wedding on the water and an outdoor tented ceremony to match. This venue accommodated both. It has a fabulous wooden structure, which serves as a permanent tent, and an amazing view of the Long Island Sound. It is absolutely perfect!”
The bride wore a stunning Maggie Sottero wedding gown, found in Australia after only one day of looking. The two were married at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont in the witness of 140 guests. Immediately following the ceremony, the attendees made their way down to the Larchmont pier. Cocktails and strains of jazz music on the lawn were followed by a formal dinner-dance reception.
The bride found many of the accessories, including the hanging lanterns, beautiful bird-cage candle holders, vintage-looking drink dispensers, and photo frames that she filled with family wedding pictures, at Anthropologie and Home Goods. “My favorite detail was a coffee-table book of New York hot spots—bars, restaurants, shops, and hotels that make up the New York that Brian and I will always remember as the New York of when we were dating. We asked our guests to sign it as our guestbook.”
