These plant-based and veggie burgers are everything a vegetarian foodie could hope for in Westchester County.

You don’t have to be a vegetarian to enjoy a thick, overflowing, 10-napkin-needing veggie burger every now and then, and these well-designed plant- and grain-based creations make meatless Mondays — or any day — easy, worth waiting for, and far from run-of-the-mill.

At this craft beer gastropub, the burgers are a local fave, and that includes the beet and quinoa varietal which rests beneath chived goat cheese, baby arugula, and house mustard. Pro tip: For a little protein kick, add a fried egg from upstate Feather Ridge Farm or, dare we suggest, smoked brisket chili on top?

Bulgur, quinoa, and wheat join together in a glorious taste tango and comprise the mega-meal Three Grain Veggie Burger that also includes roasted corn, black beans, mushrooms, and peppers. Fresh avocado, lettuce, and tomato chill out up top.

Grass Roots Kitchen

Sister to Sweet Grass, this fast-casual hotspot for elevated health-conscious fare offers two veggies burgers, and both are all vegan. The signature beet burger comes piled high with vegan Swiss cheese, watercress, pickled onions, beet ketchup, and Grass Roots Kitchen (GRK) secret sauce. The other “burger” is bean-based and resembles a falafel fashioned from chickpeas, onions, parsley, cilantro, and cumin, topped with tahini.

Jackie B’s

28 Garth Rd, Scardsdale; 914.874.5328

The motto at this hard-to-miss, black-awninged corner pub touts, “great food, great people, great times,” and its portobello burger is pretty great, too. Topped with roasted red peppers and gorgonzola cheese, this plant-based patty is a can’t-miss.

Root2Rise

359 Manville Rd, Pleasantville; 914.769.8460

A vegan, gluten-free, 100-percent plant-based restaurant that prides itself on locally sourced and organic ingredients? It seems like a tall ask, but not for Root2Rise. This Pleasantville eatery offers a beet, mushroom, and walnut burger with baby spinach and pickled onions served on grain-free ciabatta. Choose between spicy aioli, muhammara, almond cilantro chutney, or mustard to top it all off.

Sweet Grass Grill

24 Main St, Tarrytown; 914.631.0000

About a dozen nearby farms provide the eats at this casual, always bustling den of all things local, seasonal, and fresh, where the menu depends on the daily harvest. While the chickpea “cheese” burger and oyster mushroom burger are standouts, it’s the quinoa, sweet potato, and kale concoction that keeps regulars returning. A house-baked roll and a basil aioli schmear make it a meal, and even confirmed carnivores won’t miss the meat.

The Urban Hamlet

124 Pondfield Rd, Bronxville; 914.652.7407

Totally vegan, the polenta and quinoa burger comes tucked into a soft, herb-focaccia roll, delicately dolloped with tomato red pepper jam, plus pickled carrots, arugula, and tomatoes. Lightly dressed tossed salad greens are a nice touch on the side.
