Turks & Caicos

Little Bit of Manhattan in Paradise

You won’t find palm-tree wallpaper or any other tired resort décor at Gansevoort Turks + Caicos. This first Caribbean property from the swanky Manhattan brand feels (almost) like you’re in SoHo thanks to the hotel’s sexy, minimalist, contemporary vibe. Guest rooms give off an urban-loft feel, with tall ceilings, sleek lines, and dark-wood furniture, but jaw-dropping views of the beach and turquoise water leave no doubt that you’re in the Caribbean.

Dress to impress during your stay (upgrade from last year’s swimsuit!), as the NYC-style see-and-be-seen clientele is affluent and attractive. The Gansevoort’s dramatic centerpiece is the 7,000 sq. ft. infinity-edge pool, complete with lounge pods that jut out over the water (reserve these prime spots in the morning). It’s a short walk to Grace Bay Beach, where the hotel staff will deliver food and drinks (the rum punch is a must) to your lounge chair.

For a more active approach, guests can opt for complimentary snorkeling, paddle boarding, and kayaking — or, a private full or half-day boat charter to peak snorkeling spots and a secluded beach where the captain serves drinks and freshly caught seafood.

Dining at Gansevoort is also an urbane affair. The hotel’s signature restaurant, Stelle, offers what it calls “worldly Caribbean cuisine” in an elegant setting (leave the flip-flops in your room). Choose a table overlooking the pool for dinner, then sit at the stylish bar for craft cocktails and tunes spun by the island’s best DJs on Friday nights.

With all these charms, it can be hard to leave, and Gansevoort has an ingenious (and very NYC real-estate-mogul-worthy) solution: six brand-new luxury four- and five-bedroom villas for purchase, starting at $4.1 million. They don’t come cheap, but hey, neither does Manhattan.

Winter rates from $764/night; www.gansevoortturks.com
