After more than a year on the market, newsman extraordinaire Tom Brokaw and wife Meredith Auld have reportedly found a buyer for their vacation home in Pound Ridge, a private, gated compound that weighs in at a staggering 36.92 acres!
The main house is a 4-bed, 3.1-bath shingled edifice of nearly 4,200 sq. ft. with soaring 18-foot ceilings, great room, and chef’s kitchen. Rustic touches like exposed beams, pine flooring, and stone fireplace all accentuate the bucolic views visible from nearly every room. (The master suite enjoys its own terrace, but everyone can enjoy the image of the private lake from the screened-in porch.)
The property also includes a pool house with its own fireplace, full bath, and wet bar, plus a three-car detached garage, above which is a full guest apartment with another fireplace. The aforementioned 5-acre lake butts up against two additional lots, included in the sale, each one about 10 acres and approved for new construction.
Brokaw and Auld had initially set an asking price of $6.3 million in June of 2018, when the couple first put the property on the market. The New York Post reports that the couple initially paid around $4.25 million for the compound in 1998. After a year without luck, the sellers reduced the asking price back to $4.25 million, and seem to have found a buyer. (Taxes, for the record, run a hefty estimated $86,473 annually.)
The sale is currently pending with local real estate powerhouse Houlihan Lawrence.
