We sometimes don’t often see what is right in front of us, as was the case with Lynn and David. They had known one another through mutual friends for about five years, and while David had always had his eye on Lynn, she never really took him seriously.
“When I finally agreed to go out with him, I gave him a really tough time, but he persevered,” Lynn confesses. On their first date, he took her to Blue Ribbon Sushi in Manhattan. “He was such a gentleman and walked me home, even after I told him I just wanted to be friends.”
Deciding to give it another shot, she went on a second date with him, (and thankfully so), because that’s when things really started to change for her and she realized they had a true connection that shouldn’t be ignored. He had taken her to the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station and, as they looked up at the stars that adorn the famous ceiling of the station, he told her, “I always knew I wanted to look up at the stars with you.”
Everything was progressing along nicely, when back in May of this year Lynn’s father, siblings and David went on a trip together to Palm Beach when David received a suspicious phone call from his friend Adi in Israel, who also just happened to be David’s diamond guy.
To cover things up, David created this elaborate story about it being Adi’s birthday and he needed to speak with him. This might have worked on anybody else, but Lynn’s job is a publicist, so it’s in her character to know gossip. She left well enough alone, but when David met her in Israel the following month on Birthright, she was certain it was going to happen then—but it surprisingly did not.
A few months went by, and she and David decided to drive up to the beautiful Blue Hill at Stone Barns. In the back of Lynn’s mind, she had a feeling that “it” was going to happen that day, but none of her family was in town, (which she had mentioned she had wanted), so pushed those thoughts aside.
When they arrived, the hostess directed them towards a private section with a haystack and candles everywhere, even though there were at least 40 open tables around. “Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a photographer,” Lynn says, “ and I immediately started to cry hysterically.” When she turned back around, David was down on his knee.
Unbeknownst to Lynn, David had cleverly arranged for both of their families to be there for a private dinner to celebrate with them. He had also scheduled a photographer for three hours to do a mini-engagement photo shoot.
“David is the most thoughtful and caring guy ever,” Lynn says. “I believe in signs and think David is my angel. He was actually born on the day my grandmother Lynn—who I was named after—died, and I believe she sent him to me.”
The couple is not wasting any time and are currently in the process of signing contracts at the Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan for a wedding in early August of 2014.
