The Easy Way to Read Moby Dick

In November, a two-day marathon reading of the epic novel

There’s no question that Moby-Dick is one of the most venerated works of American literature—but it’s certainly not the shortest. (The Bantam Classics edition runs 704 pages.) Are you sure you made it all the way through in college? Or perhaps the opposite is true, and you’re such a fan of Ahab and his crew that you can’t get enough of their high-seas adventures, and compulsively re-read your favorite chapters. Whatever your relationship to The White Whale is, if you’re looking for a Moby-Dick refresher, head over to the Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, which will hold a two-day marathon reading of the novel—modeled after the annual reading done at the Whaling Museum in New Bedford—on November 29 and 30 (editor’s note: this date has been postponed until further notice). Put on your homemade Queequeg fan t-shirt, grab a cup of Starbucks (get it?), and dig in for the long haul.
