Sebastian Aliberti, co-owner of Modern Restaurant & Lounge in New Rochelle, met Jerry Tomic when he came to dine at Tomic’s Dubrovnik Restaurant (also in New Rochelle). The two subsequently became friends, bonding over the travails of restaurant ownership.
When Club Car Restaurant-Lounge (located in the 19th-century Romanesque Mamaroneck Train Station) closed, the duo, along with Modern co-owner Anthony Russo, partnered to open Modern on the Rails in the space in October.
The 140-seat restaurant offers a menu of Southern Italian favorites, similar to that of New Rochelle’s Modern, but with additions such as chipotle calamari, Kobe-beef fried meatballs with ricotta and marinara sauce; oven-roasted chicken; a 12-ounce Kobe burger with caramelized onions and mushrooms, applewood smoked bacon, and Monterey Jack cheese; branzino with minced garlic and fresh herbs; plus a raw bar.
