Scarsdale native Camryn Okere’s Rem and Company is getting local businesses the extra helping hands they need.
Small businesses both in Westchester and beyond are struggling to stay open through the seemingly unending COVID-19 pandemic and facing issues attracting, engaging, and retaining customers. Rem and Company is a social impact initiative that offers free consulting services to small businesses impacted by COVID-19 in Westchester and across the country. The company has more than 170 professional consultants at all levels, donating their time to help small businesses in need. Their assistance ranges from the fashion and fitness industries to the hospitality and non-profit sectors.

Founder Camryn Okere grew up in Scarsdale and began Rem and Company this past April. “I saw a need within our community,” says Okere, a community activist who studied leadership, strategic management, and design at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. “A lot of stories I heard, people didn’t have the extra hands to research what was going on with the CDC and run their business.”
Okere found that community members were invested in small businesses and genuinely wanted them to succeed. Along with her team, Okere works to analyze the current status of clients and then come up with ways for that organization to best utilize its employees and resources. Rem and Company examines marketing strategies, social media presence, web development, and other important facets across a variety of platforms in order to help brands develop appropriately and effectively.
“Rem and Company works by giving you an extra set of hands,” explains Okere. “The entire process is free. I realized people really want to give back, especially professionals and undergrads.”

Additionally, the consultants at Rem and Company have substantial knowledge of the current healthcare climate, enhancing their ability to keep businesses alive and well. In addition, they have volunteers that specialize in a variety of different backgrounds: consulting, outreach, graphic design, information on receiving grants and funding from the government, and more.
The team at Rem and Company is partially composed of those who have been displaced because of the effects of COVID-19. “They can retain their skills and be kept on their toes,” Okere says. The team comprises 40 volunteers from Westchester County alone. Local businesses can also utilize Rem and Company’s COVID Resource Center, which tackles various topics like how to maintain customer-employee relationships digitally and how nonprofits are pivoting during COVID-19.
