Westchester Country Club and Woodstock Golf Club golf professionals take on the tour pros at the PGA Championship in Rochester.
Two local PGA pros will compete in the season’s second major, the PGA Championship at Oak Hill, by virtue of their top-20 finishes in the PGA Professional Championship earlier this month.
Westchester Country Club assistant pro Alex Beach will be making his sixth start in the championship. The veteran finished in a tie for 11th at the PGA Pro played at Twin Warriors and Santa Ana Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM. Chris Sanger, head pro at Woodstock Golf Club, finished tied for 17th to advance to the championship. Twenty club pros qualified for the major.
Beach, 33, got off to a rocky start in the first round in New Mexico, but bounced back in the second round to make the initial cut in the 312-player tournament. He then carded a six-under 66 in the third round and an even-par fourth to secure his spot in the major field. This will be his sixth PGA Championship appearance in the last seven years. He won both the PGA Professional Championship and Assistant PGA Professional Championship in 2019.
Sanger, 37, makes his debut in the championship at Oak Hill after entering the final round in New Mexico in solo third based on rounds of 69-72-69 over the first three days. He slipped a bit in the final round, but held on to secure his place in Rochester.
The PGA Championship will be held May 15-21 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester.
