One of Our Favorite Foods Events Is Next Week and You Need to Be There

Feeding Westchester’s An Evening in Good Taste brings top chefs together for a cause.

When fall rounds around, most people look forward to apple picking, carving pumpkins, and shopping for a cozy fall wardrobe. But at Westchester Magazine, fall sparks our excitement for one of Westchester’s best food events. Each October, Feeding Westchester (formerly Food Bank for Westchester) hosts its fall fundraiser, An Evening in Good Taste, in White Plains. The event — this year, on October 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. — brings together more than 30 of the county’s top chefs and purveyors for an epic night of eating. The bonus: All proceeds benefit the organization’s work to end hunger for the 200,000 Westchester residents who are food insecure.

“We’ve partnered with the best chefs in the county for a truly memorable evening for an excellent cause,” says Feeding Westchester president and CEO Leslie Gordon. “These renowned chefs bring so much to our organization and are working side by side with [us] to bring awareness to hunger in our communities, with special emphasis on the 60,000 children in our county who are hungry.”

For such an important cause, it’s no surprise that chefs bring their A-games. You’ll find David DiBari’s DoughNation pizza truck slinging wood-fired pies like lemon with smoked scamorza and basil in the parking lot; newly released hard ciders from Thompson’s Cider Mill; Tarry Lodge’s polpette al sugo; and other bites from L’inizio, RiverMarket Bar & Kitchen, The Spread, Chutney Masala, Saint George Bistro, and The Dessertist, among others. VIP tickets (starting at $400) provide early entry and access to the Chef’s Club where you’ll find the Slovenia Vodka Martini luge, whiskey and bourbon tastings, cigars, and plates from Peter Kelly, Abigail Kirsch, and Posh Pretzels.

“Glossy events are always a great time,” says Christina Safarowic of The Whitlock, which will be participating for the first time this year (on the menu: the restaurant’s signature everything-bagel-spice deviled eggs). “But when you learn of the tangible effects this even has on the community, it’s incredibly fulfilling.”

Tickets start at $250 and include all food and a well-stocked open bar. Last year’s event raised more than $300,000 — enough money to buy more than one million meals. For tickets and additional info about the event, visit www.feedingwestchester.org/event/eigt. We’ll see you there.
