Lying off the beaten path in a residential neighborhood of Sleepy Hollow, Tyrynda Thai Restaurant has replaced what was formerly called Thai Garden. Open since April, the 80-seat dining room is tastefully decorated with Thai art, fresh flowers, lime-green walls, and white curtains and tablecloths.
An expansive menu highlights the complex flavors of Thai cuisine, incorporating spicy, mild, sweet, tangy, and savory. Husband-and-wife owners Sunny and Darunee Soncharoen point out that their dishes are authentically Thai, and have not been modified to suit American tastes.
Standout appetizers are the crab cakes ($7.95) and dumpling-filled Thai crepes ($5.95). An extensive selection of salads includes the avocado-and-mango salad ($7.95) and the Labb chicken salad ($8.95)—ground chicken and red onions in a spicy lime dressing.
Favorites such as pad Thai are on the menu, while spicy-food fanatics will appreciate the fiery basil dishes. The Soncharoens are particularly proud of their entrées featuring fish, lamb, and duck. Lamb Massaman ($20.95) showcases tender lamb in a mild coconut milk-based curry sauce. Among the duck dishes (all $18.95): spicy sizzling duck, and roast duck in a sweet-sour tamarind sauce. The chef also recently has added duck in tangerine sauce to the menu.
Lunch specials (entrée plus soup or salad) are available on Tuesday through Friday for $7.95 to $8.95. Also offered on Tuesday to Friday are discounts of 10 percent on evening takeout orders, and happy hours from 4 pm to 7 pm (buy one drink, get the second drink free).
Tyrynda Thai provides catering services and can host special events for large groups, featuring a tailored menu, and surprise dishes created by the chef. Free parking is available at the back of the restaurant during the week, with valet parking on Fridays and Saturdays.
Tyrynda Thai is open Tuesday through Thursday, 12 pm-9:30 pm, Friday and Saturday, 12 pm-10:30 pm, and Sunday 12 pm-9:30 pm.
