Mario Guerra stepped up to the head pro position at Quaker Ridge Golf Course this year after three seasons as an assistant at the Scarsdale institution. Guerra spent sixseasons at Sunningdale Co untry Club and taught at the Jim McLean School for many years. He was recognized by Golf Digest as one of the Best Young Teachers in America.
Tyler Gosselin became head pro at Scarsdale Golf Club this year, taking the place of Bill Smittle who was named Director of Golf. Gosselin came to the club last year from The Country Club in Brookline, one of the USGA’s five founding clubs, where he was assistant professional. He began his career at Congressional Country Club.
Several other local assistants left for the top jobs at area clubs. Rob Jamison from Apawamis went to the Powelton Club in Newburgh, Adam Rainaud departed Winged Foot for the Country Club of New Canaan, and Tyler Jaramillio moved from St. Andrew’s in Hastings to become head pro at Seawane on Long Island. Jim Luck took over at Paramount Club in New City while Spook Rock GC in Suffern hired Patriot Hills GC assistant Jim McCann as their director of golf. McCann was previously head pro at Rockland Lake State Park.
