Speaking Publicly at the Burns
There weren’t any empty seats when public speaker and author Fran Lebowitz came to the Jacob Burns Film Center for a screening of the fun and funny documentary Martin Scorsese created about her, entitled Public Speaking. There was, however, lots and lots of laughter. Scorsese is a friend of the very outspoken Lebowitz, as is Vanity Fair Editor Graydon Carter, whose idea this documentary was. Asked what she thought of the film, Lebowitz quipped, “I think Marty’s filmmaking is coming along.”

Pet Reading a Howling Success
Taking its cue from the March 2011 edition of Westchester Magazine featuring a section devoted to pets, the Marmaduke Writing Factory went to the dogs—and cats and bunnies and ducks—on March 29 with Pet Tales: A Public Reading About Pets. The event was held at the Factory’s historic Forster House in Pleasantville. Authors Ben Cheever, Kate Buford, Marilyn Johnson, and others, along with special guest Laurie Yarnell, features editor of Westchester Magazine, read their pet essays, which had appeared in the magazine. About 40 two-legged humans—and six dogs—attended the free event.
