The first Westchester County location of the chain is giving Mamaroneck residents something to quack about.
There’s something supremely satisfying and nostalgic about licking icing off one’s fingers. At new Mamaroneck Duck Donuts location, which opened in January, there are plenty of smiles on customers’ faces (and lots of napkins) as the made-to-order doughnuts are being deliciously embraced by the community.
Bonnie Foncello, who co-owns the Mamaroneck Duck Donuts franchise location with her husband Dave, says they had been looking to own a business when they heard about Duck Donuts from a friend. A chain that got its start in 2006 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Duck Donuts now has 90 locations in 18 states.

“We visited a few of the locations in New Jersey, and fell in love with the doughnuts, but also with the atmosphere of the stores,” says Foncello, who’s originally from Mamaroneck and though the area would be “perfect” for a Duck location. “Duck Donuts are more than just doughnut shops; they’re about the experience, and they’re very family-friendly.”
Part of the experience is customizing your toppings. All Duck Donuts start with a fresh, vanilla cake doughnut, which is topped to order with myriad combinations of toppings, glazes, and drizzles. (If that’s too overwhelming there are plenty of suggested combinations to choose from.) Both children and adults crowd around the glass, where little rubber duckies line the counter, as the doughnuts are made, watching the glaze drip down and seeing toppings liberally sprinkled on top.
Both the lemon with shredded coconut and blueberry pancake doughnuts (the latter with a touch of maple icing and powdered sugar on top) were bursting with flavor. “There’s a lot of buzz in Westchester about doughnuts. People are looking for a better product that’s freshly made,” says Foncello. And while the toppings and flavors are fun, Foncello says she likes that “the vanilla cake doughnut is delicious on its own.”
Beyond all the sweet combos, doughnut breakfast sandwiches and a signature blend of coffee and espresso are available, as well. The company has a strong to commitment to “making a connection in the community” through charitable endeavors and supporting local schools, notes Foncello. And look for rotating seasonal doughnuts and specials that celebrate “holidays,” such as World Nutella Day on February 5.
