Shorr Thing

Kalie Shorr has been turning plenty of heads in the five short years since she burst onto the country-music scene. Onstage at The Palace Stamford this month, Shorr and her music have been spotlighted by Apple Music, CMT, Spotify, Radio Disney Country, Pandora, and Billboard magazine. Additionally, her 2019 debut album, Open Book, was dubbed “2019’s best freshman country effort” by Variety, so get those cowboy boots out of the closet and come see why Shorr’s star is on the rise.

A Second Act

It’s never too late to try something new, as evidenced by Demitasse Players founder Richard Cirulli, who, at the age of 69, had been crafting works for his lauded White Plains nonprofit since 2016 when he suddenly decided to try his hand at filmmaking. In January, the retired professor and author shot his charming, thought-provoking comedy, An Existential Date, at White Plains’ Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company, where it will also be screening this month during an event dedicated to raising funds for mental health awareness.

Celebrating Spring

Families looking for a safer way to celebrate the joys of the season may want to head to Port Chester’s Clay Art Center this month, when they hold their annual Spring Fest. Attendees can look forward to hands-on clay activities for kids, wheel throwing and raku-firing demonstrations, a raffle, and even an outdoor pottery sale, all with free admission and masks, and social distancing.

A Day to Remember

It’s no secret that the late Ralph Martinelli made Westchester the acclaimed magazine it is today. What fewer know is that our beloved founding publisher was also passionate about both golf and the arts. To celebrate Ralph and thank him for his many years as a fervent advocate and board member of ArtsWestchester, the White Plains-based nonprofit has renamed its annual fundraising event the Ralph Martinelli Memorial Golf Outing, which will take place this month at New Rochelle’s Wykagyl Country Club.

Poetry Party

If your life is missing a bit of culture, but you still aren’t comfortable in public, the Hudson Valley Writers Center has you covered. This month, the center will host a reading by three acclaimed writers. An evening with Sumita Chakraborty, Cortney Lamar Charleston, & Carey Salerno on Zoom will feature Chakraborty, a lauded poet, essayist, and scholar, as well as a Ruth Lily Fellowship winner, reading alongside poet and The Rumpus editor Lamar Charleston, who will be joined by writer and professor at the University of Maine at Farmington Carey Salerno.

Adrien Broom: Holding Space comprises a collection of attractive photographs that combine the sensibilities and sensuality of classical painting with the techniques of contemporary photography, courtesy of a deeply talented artist educated in Florence and London.
