Morgan Pressel, a standout player on the LPGA Tour and winner of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, will receive the Bing Crosby Tournament Sponsor Award from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at the group’s 64th National Awards Dinner in Tarrytown.
Pressel established the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Golf Tournament, which has raised more than $4 million over the last eight years. The most recent event, held at St. Andrews in January, was supported by LPGA stars Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, and World Golf Hall Fame honoree Annika Sorenstam, among others. Proceeds support patient care and research at The Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center, and the Morgan Pressel Center for Cancer Genetics.
“We are delighted to salute Morgan Pressel, whose foundation fights cancer with the same ferocity she exhibits on the golf course,” said MGWA President Bruce Beck. Past recipients of the MGWA award include Arnold Palmer, MetLife, Jack Nicklaus, Ken Venturi, and Bob Hope.
Pressel will be honored along with Nick Price (Gold Tee Award), Gary Player (Winnie Palmer Award) and Ron Sirak (Werden Golf Journalism Award) June 9 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.
