Talk about top talent! This year, a total of 70 Emmy nominations were handed out to shows shot in Westchester County.

Los Angeles, New York City, Atlanta…Westchester? While you might not recognize it as a powerhouse name in the television industry, Westchester County is a popular destination for filmmakers because of the variety of locations and landscapes across the area. Six of the many shows filmed in Westchester received 70 nominations for the 74th annual Emmy Awards, which will take place on September 12.

Succession – HBO

Not just among shows filmed in Westchester, but for all shows, HBO’s Succession led the pack. With 25 nominations in total, Succession received the most nods of any show, including Best Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong), Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (J. Smith-Cameron and Sarah Snook), and more. The show follows the story of the Roy family, headed by their father, Logan Roy. Logan owns Waystar RoyCo, a global media and entertainment conglomerate, but, when his health begins to decline, a battle within the family begins for who will take control of the company and lead the family. Known for dark yet sharp comedy, the show displays the dynamics inside one of the most influential families in the world as they fight for power and political capital. The show is based in New York City and other locations around the world, making Westchester an ideal place to shoot. “A lot of times you want to tell a story set in New York and somewhere else,” says Scott Ferguson, the executive producer of Succession. “Westchester is one of the first places I look for a convincing ‘somewhere else.’” The show frequently used Westchester County Airport to stage other locations like Virginia, Croatia, or Bosnia and Herzegovina. It also used county office buildings in White Plains and DD’s Diner in Ossining.

Severance – Apple TV+

This psychological thriller focuses on Mark, who has agreed to participate in a “severance” program, which separates his memories from life at work to life outside of work. Severance has been nominated for Best Drama Series and Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Adam Scott), as well as Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. According to the Westchester County Executive’s Office, the show was filmed in Mount Pleasant, Pleasantville, Scarsdale, and Yonkers.

Only Murders in the Building – Hulu

Crime drama meets comedy in this star-studded new series. Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez start their own true-crime podcast after a murder in their New York City apartment building is ruled a suicide. Join the three and many other A-list guest stars (Sting, Jane Lynch, Jimmy Fallon, and more) on their charming journey to discover the truth. The show is up for Best Comedy Series, Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Steve Martin and Martin Short), and Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, to name a few. Only Murders in the Building used the Westchester County Archives in Elmsford for filming.
