Construction starts on state-of-the-art nursing facility in White Plains
Production for the new White Plains Institute for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, a $60 million skilled nursing facility, started on September 7. The 110,000 square foot space will house 76 specialized rehabilitation beds, 42 long-term care beds and 42 beds for Alzheimer’s care. “We want it to feel like a hotel that people can feel at home in,” says Lizer Jozefovic, CEO of Epic Healthcare, the company that will manage the institute. Amenities at the facility will include underground parking, outdoor access from all floors, and a first-floor rehabilitation center. The facility is planning on hiring 160 to 200 full-time and part-time employees. Managed by joint venture Congress/Consigli JV, the construction of the institute will take 20 to 22 months to complete, according to The Congress Cos. CEO William Nicholson.

City approves development of mixed-use apartments in White Plains
Earlier this month, Alliance Residential Partners — a national real estate company — received city approval to construct Broadstone White Plains, a mixed-use apartment development that will include 434 units. The development, which lies on Mamaroneck Avenue in between Mitchell Place and Post Road, will include two 15-story buildings and one 6-story building. The residential units will be split into 35 studios, 247 one-bedroom apartments, 130 two-bedroom and 22 three-bedroom apartments. In addition to a residential portion, the development will include 8,000 square feet of retail or restaurant space and an 8,000 square foot public park on the side of the building located on Mitchell Place.
Instacart services now available to southern Westchester County, other locations
Online grocery service Instacart announced last month that it is expanding its services into parts of Westchester and Rockland counties, as well as the Bronx. Through Instacart, customers can shop for groceries on the Instacart website or app that will then be delivered to their home. Currently, the company serves locations all across the country and 5.3 million homes statewide. The expansion will focus on the southern part of Westchester County, including Yonkers, Eastchester, Pelham, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Tuckahoe and Bronxville.

Elite Airways introduces new non-stop flights to Sarasota, Florida
Another private airline recently announced expanded service from Westchester County Airport (HPN). Elite Airways is now offering non-stop flights to and from HPN and Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) in Florida. The flights are twice weekly—available on Fridays and Mondays—starting November 10. Passengers can check their first bag for free (if it is 50 pounds or less) and will receive complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages on their flight. Elite Airways is also pet-friendly.
Xerox signs reseller agreement with Fujifilm North America
Xerox and Fujifilm North America Corporation’s Graphic Systems Division announced on September 11 that the two companies are set to sell several of each other’s products under a new reseller agreement. Under the agreement, Fujifilm’s direct channels in the U.S. and Canada will start selling the Brenva HD, Trivor 2400, and Rialto 900 —three of Xerox’s inkjet presses — on October 1. Likewise, Xerox’s direct sales channels in the U.S. and Canada will begin selling one of Fujifilm’s products, the J Press 720S inkjet press, also starting October 1.

KG+D Architects finishes renovations for Fairview Country Club
KG+D recently completed construction on the existing clubhouse and grounds of Fairview Country Club in Greenwich, CT. Fairview Country Club already housed an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and hotel accommodations before construction. The construction projects included updating the club’s current spaces as well as adding new amenities. Some of the renovations include a new interior grillroom and bar with an outdoor terrace, expansion of the Main Dining Room and wine bar, renovation of the club lounge, and the creation of a new room dedicated to private parties that provide direct access to the club’s summer kitchen. Fairfield Country Club’s goal was to maximize its offerings to both existing and future clients through these renovations.

The Taco Project opens second location in new Boyce Thompson Center
The Taco Project, a Mexican restaurant based out of Tarrytown, officially opened its second location in the Boyce Thompson Center in Yonkers on August 21. The Taco Project offers traditional Mexican cuisine — primarily a variety of street tacos and burritos — in a casual dining space. The official grand opening on the new restaurant took place August 29, with the co-owners of The Taco Project, Yonkers City officials, and representatives from Simone Development Companies (who developed the center) in attendance. The restored Boyce Thompson Center, located on the site of the former Boyce Thompson Institute, officially opened May 23. The center is now offering 85,000 square feet of space for restaurants, retail, businesses, medical practices and banking. In addition to The Taco Project, Starbucks, Japanese sushi restaurant ISO, and Italian restaurant Fortina have also leased space in the center.
Pace Women’s Justice Center receives $600,000 of funding through grant
On September 12, Congresswoman Nita Lowey announced that a $2.3 million grant in federal funds would be used to combat violence against women. Pace Women’s Justice Center (PWJC) — one of three recipients — received $600,000 of this grant through the Legal Assistance for Victims Grant Program. PWJC offers free legal services to victims of domestic violence, elder abuse, and sexual assault in Westchester and Putnam counties, with a staff comprised of dedicated volunteers, including students, attorneys and other professionals. “Access to legal services is one of the most critical factors in a victim’s journey to safety. With this funding, PWJC, along with our community partners, will be able to help hundreds more victims and survivors of abuse,” says Cindy Kanusher, Esq., Executive Director of PWJC.
