White Plains-based top 15 U.S. food and beverage company, Danone North America, popular for its well-known dairy products, has wasted no time jumping to action during the chaos brought on by COVID-19.
With unemployment spreading faster than the virus, Danone is backing employees with pay premiums, paid leave during quarantine, and childcare support in hopes of giving their workers some peace of mind and security during these trying times.
“We have always believed we have a responsibility to use our business as a force for good,” says Mariano Lozano, Chief Executive Officer of Danone North America.
Danone employs 600 people at its White Plains headquarters and has already committed to donating $1.5 million to food banks and rescue organizations such as Feeding Westchester, an organization that distributes food and other resources to towns across the county. At the same time, Danone is continuing their efforts to get their own brand’s supply to grocery stores throughout the region.
“We are proud to support our neighbors in Westchester County through our partnership with Feeding Westchester,” Lozano says. “I am equally proud and grateful to our Danone team for working so hard to keep the shelves stocked for the people relying on us.”
The company’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. “Westchester County is one community and we are proud of the actions taken by Danone North America during this challenging period in our County’s history,” notes County Executive George Latimer.
