YES Network Yankees broadcaster and former MLB player Ken Singleton, a Mount Vernon native; CBS 2 Meteorologist Elise Finch; New York State Senator Malcolm Smith; and lifelong Mount Vernon resident and former New York State Athletic Commission Chairman John R. Branca (posthumously) were among those honored with the Denzel Lifetime Achievement Award at the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon 100th Anniversary Gala.
Nearly 700 guests packed the ballroom at the Hilton Westchester; the emcee was 1050 ESPN Radio sports broadcaster Bill Daughtry.
Among the those in attendance: actor Danny Glover; actors/club alumni J.B. Smoove, Leon Robinson, and Shane Dean; former NBA players/club alumni “Scooter” McCray, Gus Williams, and Lowes Moore; Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino; and Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis.
Branca’s son Bill accepted the award for his father.
Denzel Washington, the scheduled host, was unable to attend due to illness.
