4 Bargain Burgundies That Are Ready to Drink in Westchester

While some of the most expensive bottles in the wine universe are Burgundies, a number of affordable varietals are available locally.

While many French Burgundies, white as well as red, are selling at local retail shops for more than $200 a bottle, I’ve found some excellent, ready-to-drink bottles available at less than $60. (Note: vintages at shops may vary from those provided, but these wines are quite consistent from year to year.)

2018 William Fevre Champs Royaux Chablis ($27)

Made from hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes, this wine shows a bouquet and fresh taste of apples and peaches, with hints of brioche in its crisp finish. It’s perfect to pair with oysters, scallops, and sushi.
Find it: Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits in Yonkers and Larchmont Wine & Liquor.

2018 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey Clos des Myglands ($50)

This full-bodied wine fashioned from Pinot Noir grapes grown in hillside vineyards shows a bouquet and taste of plums and cranberries, with hints of strawberries in its finish. It marries well with braised beef brisket, leg of lamb, and well-aged cheeses.
Find it: Suburban Wine & Spirits in Yorktown Heights and Zachys Wine & Liquor in Scarsdale.

2017 Bouchard Pere & Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune ($36)

If you like cherries and chocolate, you’ll love the bouquet and taste of this elegant, velvety smooth yet dry wine. Mate it with just about everything, especially veal and flavorful seafood, like swordfish and tuna.
Find it: Bedford Wine Merchants, Grapes, the Wine Company in White Plains, and Rye Brook Wine & Spirit Shop.

2017 Albert Bichot Santenay Lès Charmes ($31)

Following fermentation, this wine made from Pinot Noir grapes aged in French oak for more than a year. It boasts a fragrant bouquet and taste of cherries and raspberries, with hints of strawberry, and mates well with barbecue ribs, duck, and charbroiled steak.
Find it: Pound Ridge Wines & Spirits in Pound Ridge and Varmax Liquor Pantry in Port Chester.
