Westchester’s First AI-Powered Smart Office Is Coming to White Plains

Real estate investment and property services firm Onyx Equities plans on building a new office campus, which will be called WestPark, across two LEED, Class-A headquarters buildings. This means that the buildings are of the highest quality available in the area and are environmentally sustainable, but the plan also calls for the sophisticated buildings to meet the accelerating technological demands of 21st Century business.

“Our vision is for WestPark to serve as a hub of connectivity for a global workforce and be the place where innovation and creativity will thrive,” says DJ Venn, Senior Vice President of Asset Management.

WestPark is planned to be built in two phases: The first phase calls for the buildings to be retrofitted with AI technology and Internet of Things data retrieval systems to meet sustainability, security, and connectivity demands. The second phase is all about setting the scene for autonomous vehicles to run both throughout the campus and on local highways to get to surrounding towns.

“Our concept is for an autonomous shuttle and other autonomous vehicles to connect our innovation campus with our immediate neighborhood’s sports, food, and health facilities, and then to the White Plains multimodal transportation center and Metro-North Railroad train stations,” Venn says.

The campus is located at the intersection of I-287, I-684, and the Hutchinson River and Merritt parkways, and is between the Metro-North Harlem and New Haven lines. Onyx hopes that this prime location will draw a labor force from New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

WestPark associates will also work with New York State and Westchester County to promote the development of an “Innovation Corridor” on I-287 and the use of autonomous driving in that corridor.

“As Westchester County’s biotech, healthcare, financial services, and tech sectors continue to thrive, the chance to develop and position WestPark as the linchpin of an ‘Innovation Corridor’ along I-287 — that will attract companies in New York City’s burgeoning tech and financial sectors, as well as others nationally — is very real,” says Venn.

In addition to the key location and Class-A status of the buildings, the site also boasts a powerful data center with high-speed fiber-optic connectivity, fresh-air ventilation systems, and modern security and life safety systems.

“Both our world-class Smart Campus and the concept of developing an autonomous transportation loop along the I-287 corridor all play into the vision we have of moving Westchester County into the forefront of smart business, innovation, and healthy living,” Venn says.
