Mossy Fern, a plant company focusing on rare and unusual botanicals, just opened its first retail store in Hastings-on-Hudson. Run by spouses Harry and Catherine Fellows (above), Mossy Fern’s first iteration was a pop-up shop at the Hastings-on-Hudson Arts and Crafts Fair in May.
Their debut was well received and was followed up by others at the Tarrytown and Nyack Street Fairs, plus pop-ups at local businesses in the Rivertowns, as well as booths at the Irvington and Hastings farmers’ markets. The couple, who have more than 30 years of business experience, source from uncommon growers; plant enthusiasts frequent the shop because it offers a selection of plants that are difficult to find elsewhere.
“We started this business because we wanted to share our love of plants with the community and to do something good for the planet,” says Harry. “We didn’t realize so many other people were crazy for plants and that the interest was so intense.”
In addition to exotic plants, the shop also carries organic soils, handcrafted tools, ceramic pots, nature and garden kits for children, and other garden décor and gifts.
